- April 7th: The Association Française contre les Myopathies (AFM) decides to create the Généthon laboratory.
- December 8th: Hubert Curien, Minister of Research and Technology, inaugurates Généthon
1991
- Creation of the université d’Evry Val-d’Essonne
1992
- First physical maps of the human genome.
- First physical map of a human chromosome: Chromosome 21.
1993
- December 15th: Publication of the First first genetic and physical map of the entire human genome established at Généthon.
1994
- New genetic map that includes 2066 microsatellite markers.
1995
- Launch of Généthon II and of the High-Throughput Sequencing (HTS) program. with the the creation of Genset biotechnology company.
- Creation of the human genetic disease laboratory, managed by Jean Weissenbach, at Généthon (URA CNRS 1922).
- September 28th: Publication of a 2nd generation, integrated physical and genetic map developed by researchers at the Fondation Jean Dausset – Centre d’Etudes du Polymorphisme Humain, in collaboration with the Généthon team.
1996
- June 6th : Genset opens its own offices after being listed on the New Market stock exchange in Paris and the NASDAQ in New York for $100 million.
1997
- Creation and setting up of the Centre National de Séquençage (CNS - Genoscope) in Evry.
- Creation of the Centre national de génotypage (CNG) .
