iSSB, the Institute of Systems & Synthetic Biology was created with a desire to develop research and training in systems biology and synthetic biology.

The Institute merges theoretical, experimental and computational studies to model how living systems function and in turn to conceive and construct new biological circuits for integration within microorganisms. It provides both dry and wet laboratories, thus linking modeling and experimentation.

The five research teams explore the scientific and technological aspects of synthetic biology to ultimately achieve a range of goals, including the optimization of drug bioproduction, the development of new metabolic circuits for industrial production, and the creation of artificial genetic information systems that do not interfere with natural organisms.
